The My Best Teacher(s) Appreciation Initiative is an educational and community recognition project led by The Academic Times Journal through its Basic G and High G platforms.

It provides an opportunity for students at both Basic and Senior High School levels to reflect on and express appreciation for the teachers who have positively influenced their academic and personal growth. The initiative is open to both current students and past students, allowing for a broad participation base that captures a diverse range of experiences.

Purpose and Importance

The initiative aims to foster a culture of gratitude, respect, and recognition within Ghana’s educational community. By encouraging students to publicly share positive stories about their best teachers, it highlights the often-unsung efforts of dedicated educators and promotes an environment where excellence in teaching is celebrated.

This initiative also serves as a motivational tool for teachers, reinforcing the value of their work and encouraging continued commitment to student development. In addition, it offers students an opportunity to practice reflective writing and public expression, contributing to their communication skills.

Participation Scope

Participation is open to current students in Primary 4 to 6, Junior High School (JHS 1–3), and Senior High School (SHS 1–3), as well as past students from these levels. This inclusiveness ensures that impactful teaching moments, whether recent or from years past, are recognized and celebrated across generations of learners.

Submission Format

Students are encouraged to write original and respectful reflections on the positive qualities, contributions, and memorable experiences they associate with their best teacher or teachers. These written pieces should convey genuine appreciation and specific examples of the teacher’s influence. Optional artwork or photographs that enhance the submission may also be included. The emphasis is on authentic student voices and heartfelt expression.

Administration and Coordination

17

The initiative will be coordinated through the Basic G and High G platforms under the direction of The Academic Times Journal’s editorial team. Regional and district-level coordinators will engage schools, introduce the program, and guide both students and teachers through the process. Schools will be encouraged to host mini-campaigns or writing workshops to stimulate participation.

Submissions will be collected through designated email addresses, online forms, or via school coordinators. The editorial team will conduct a light review of all submissions to ensure they meet quality and appropriateness standards while maintaining the authenticity of student voices.

Publication Process

Approved submissions will be published regularly on the respective Basic G and High G national platforms under features such as “My Best Teacher(s) Corner” or “My Best Teacher(s) Spotlight.” Select outstanding entries may also be featured in The Academic Times Journal’s print and digital editions, quarterly newsletters, or during national teacher recognition events.

The Academic Times Journal will maintain active engagement with school communities, educational stakeholders, and teacher training institutions to ensure the long-term visibility, relevance, and impact of the initiative.

Broader Impact

By providing a national platform for students to appreciate and celebrate their best teachers, the initiative contributes to building a more positive narrative around the teaching profession in Ghana. It serves to uplift the morale of educators, foster stronger teacher-student relationships, and cultivate an atmosphere where exceptional teaching is recognized and emulated.

Through these stories of gratitude and recognition, The Academic Times Journal reinforces its commitment to advancing excellence in education and community development across the nation.
